When a child demonstrates an ability to understand God's presence in the Eucharist, the parish invites the child and parents to prepare for reception of the Eucharist. The invitation is given when the child attains the age of discretion; i.e. about seven years of age. The child must have been enrolled in a parish program of faith formation at least one year prior as well as continually throughout the year of sacramental preparation. Throughout the time of the parish religious education, the parents extend the parish program by weekly attendance at a parish Mass, working with the text issued by the Office of Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation, and by participating in a First Eucharist Seminar.
Children then have three areas of support and catechesis: (1) weekly Mass in the parish; (2) weekly Parish Religious Education sessions or enrollment in the parish school; (3) attending additional Sacramental Preparation classes to prepare them for the Sacrament; and (4) instruction and sharing with parents in preparation for the sacrament using a textbook issued to parents.

First Reconciliation & First Communion 2022-2023
Sacramental Preparation Classes are held bi-weekly on Monday evenings (with the exception of holidays), 6:00-7:15pm in the St. Stephen School Hall (gym). There are 7 First Reconciliation Classes and 7 First Communion Classes.
If 40% (3 out of 7 classes) or more are missed they will be at risk for not receiving the sacrament.
